Bontrager Trip 4W

How fast, how far, and how long? Bontrager's Trip 4W computer displays current, average, and maximum speed, current and total mileage, ride time, and a clock. It does all this without wires for a clean-looking front end, too. The Trip 4W is all about versatility, it records data for 2 wheel sizes so you can use it on your road and mountain bikes and you can mount it to your bars or your stem.

I've been using this product for 2 years now and don't understand all the bad reviews. The thing just works. Yeah, sometimes I have to hit the button more than once to get it to cycle and yes, you need to keep about 6 inches between the computer and a flashing headlight, but that seems pretty benign to me. I like that it has time of day and automatically pauses the timer when I stop for lights. Batteries last just under 2 years. Have used it in the rain, cold and through half a dozen crashes. It just works.

I have used Bontrager bike products over the years; as with many other products, this device simply put-very good. As I am a 'grass roots' individual I do not require all the satellite tracking GPS. This unit is reliable for recording distance, time and pace, and is coded so it does not interfere with my HRM. As rule I change batteries at least twice a year to ensure accuracy

              Comments:

I have had this product for about 4 months now and, although fairly basic, generally works well, is easy to read and has a nice clean look. The big problem with it for me is when it is used during low light conditions and I have my strobe headlight on. The issue is that the speedometer senses each pulse of the headlight as a rotation of the front wheel and adds this to your actual speed. The result is a wildly inaccurate reading. Even standing still, it says I'm doing 63 km/h. When riding along, I was supposedly going 97 km/h. Crazy! Keeping the headlight on as a solid beam was even more strange. The speedometer completely ignores the front wheel sensor, and cycles between 0, 27 then 33 km/h and then back to 0 every 10 seconds or so. So if you only ride during the day, the Trip-4W is a decent choice. If you ride in low light, get something with a wire.

                  Comments:

I would highly discourage the use of this device. It is very accurate, but very hard to use. Push a button and nothing happens. Buttons have to be pushed multiple times for the unit to respond and certain cell phones cause the unit to think that it is cycling which will run up your odometer

                  Comments:

I use this on my mountain bike as well as road bike. The display is very easy to read. The trip info is easily reset when you're ready to go on a new ride. I really enjoy the product. My 2 gripes are the poor instructions and the buttons working. Though the instructions are junk and confusining... Any person with common sense can put this thing on in 10 min without them. If we were building an airplane, sure I'd want clear instructions. But since we're just slapping a bike computer on a bike, no biggy. Issue number 2 is the button that you press to cycle through the various features... It doesn't work every time. 9/10 times it do though.

This product is of poor quality, poor design, has horrible instructions, and unfortunately has reared its ugly head at your favorite bicycle shops. Besides the wireless feature that itself is relatively huge as well as overly sensitive, it is just generally a lousy product. If you read the rest of the reviews ripping this product, you should have already made up your mind. Don't waste your money.

The instructions are terrible. Does not make any sense. The only way I figured it out was to google the device and there is a youtube video from a bike store demonstrating how to put it together. The installation is actually very simple once you have been given proper instructions. So far for me it is accurate and I like the wireless function. The video says the sensor must be within a forearms length from the computer, just under the brakes - maybe that's why some people are having problems with the reading
